Analytical Services and ConsultancyMCA Services was founded in 1978 as a laboratory-based consultancy specialising in surface area, porosimetry and porosity measurement contract analysis. Our fully-equipped laboratories are based 15 miles from Cambridge, UK and house the latest equipment for provision of analytical services to a wide variety of clients, both in the UK and abroad. We routinely offer assistance with interpretation of results at no additional charge and our staff can draw on extensive experience of a wide range of materials and industries.Senior StaffDr Fred Jones CChem MRSC - Principal•Ph.D in physical chemistry (catalysis and thermal analysis)•8 years R&D in semiconductor technology•11 years R&D in auto-catalysis and liquid phase catalysis•Over 40 years experience in physical materials characterisation•Special interests: Carbons and graphitesPharmaceuticalsInorganicsCeramicsCatalysisDr Darren Lapham CChem MRSC - Operations Manager•Ph.D in physical chemistry (semi-conductor sensor technology).•Post doctoral research in lithium-ion batteries (London / EU).•Post doctoral research in sensor technology (Cambridge).•Over 20 years experience in physical materials characterisation.•Special interests:PharmaceuticalsGeological samplesElectro-catalysis & Energy StorageInorganicsAdditive Manufacturing / 3D PrintingSpecialist Materials In the late 1980’s, MCA’s expertise in particle technology led to a diversification into the production of biosensor grade materials where ultra-fine particulate materials were required. Our initial focus was on a fine grade silver chloride powder specifically designed for screen printable biosensor reference electrodes and this was followed by other fine grade powder such as platinum on carbon and ruthenium on carbon for advanced sensor systems. MCA’s technology was successful in gaining four DTi SMART awards for innovative biosensor technology which led to us supplying our materials to the world market. Our staff are mindful of commercial sensitivity in this field and are able to assist with advice and supply of speciality biosensor materials on a strictly confidential basis.
